College Resources for Freshmen & Sophomores

11/29/18: "So You Want To Go To College?" Night

This annual program is designed to help underclassmen learn more about how colleges view academic preparation, standardized testing, extracurricular involvement, and college/career exploration. We hope every freshman and sophomore will attend this session at least once during their first two years of high school.

11/19/18: D214 Student Athletic Night:

This program provided an overview of the college recruitment process, athletic eligibility requirements and scholarship possibilities for students interested in playing intercollegiate athletics. Click here to access the presentation and handouts.

Career Nights:

  • 10/10: Arts & Communications/ Human Services at Elk Grove High School from 6:30 – 8:30 PM
  • 10/24: Health/Natural Resources at John Hersey High School from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
  • 11/7: Engineering & Industrial Technology/Business * Computers Night at Rolling Meadows High School from 6:30 – 8:30 PM

While many of our students plan to go to college immediately after high school, we find this type of career exploration encourages stronger high school grades as students understand the link between their coursework and their ultimate goals. It also helps students begin to identify potential interests, internships, jobs and college majors, which helps in the college search process. Please encourage your son or daughter to attend at least one Career Night a year during the first two years of high school.
