Anyone is interested in auditioning for this year's spring show, ComedySportz, should plan to attend two workshops after school on Wednesday, February 26th and Wednesday, March 4th.  Please meet in Room 103 after school.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Becker.



      The John Hersey High School Jazz Ensemble 1 won high honors this past Saturday, February 29, at the 35th annual Jazz in the Meadows Jazz Festival, held at Rolling Meadows High School.  Hersey’s Jazz Ensemble 1 earned first place in class 3A, an extremely competitive category for the festival, which also earned them the invitation to perform in the elite grand finale concert held Saturday night.   They were 2ndplace to Iowa City HS from Iowa in the overall competition determined in finals.

      The Hersey Jazz Ensemble 1 performed “Never Will I Marry,” by Frank Loesser/Cannonball Adderly, “Footprints,” by Wayne Shorter/Miles Davis, and “Gumba Blue,” by Maria Schneider. Performing soloists for the competition incuded Luke Podvrsan on alto saxophone, Zhivko Zhekov on tenor saxophone, Tyler Graf on drumset, David Balut and Colin Stanhope on trumpet, Jake Esposito on trombone, and Andrey Pikovskiy on piano.

      There were 110 bands total competing in Jazz in the Meadows for 2020, including bands from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri.
