will arrive around January 2, 2012!

Dear Parents,

I would like to be among the first to welcome you and your child to John Hersey High School and to a very important Orientation Night on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 or Thursday, January 19, 2012.  The purpose of this evening is to assist you in completing the course selection process for 2012-13.  Students with a last name beginning with A-L are asked to come on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.  Students with a last name beginning with M-Z are asked to come on Thursday, January 19, 2012.  We are holding the program on two nights to accommodate the number of attendees.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.  The program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m.  Parking will be available both in the front and the back of the building.  Parents and eighth grade students are to remain together all evening.  Please do not send your eighth grade student alone.

Enclosed in this packet is information about various programs and course selection.  PLEASE BRING THIS ENTIRE PACKET WITH YOU TO THE ORIENTATION NIGHT.  You will be reviewing the green course selection sheet and will have the opportunity to complete this document and turn it in at the end of the evening.  If this sheet is not completed during the evening, it must be completed and turned in by Friday, January 27, 2012, to the John Hersey High School Student Services Office.  Parents will have an opportunity to meet with the Division Heads of Math/Science, English/Fine Arts, PE, Social Studies/World Language, and Career Technology Education to discuss curriculum, electives and placement.  Information about athletics will also be available.  You will also be able to meet with counselors and administrators.  Interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing families will only be available Wednesday, January 18, 2012.  An orientation delivered in Spanish will only be available on Thursday, January 19, 2012.

COURSE SELECTION SHEETS WILL BE DUE FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2012.  If you are not able to attend this meeting, please mail or fax (847-718-4934) the completed course selection sheet to Student Services at John Hersey High School before this date.

This is an important event for parents and their eighth grade student(s) and the beginning of an exciting educational experience.  We are here to make the transition from 8th grade to high school smooth and positive.
