Food Drive 2017 proved to be another success. Through the help of our community, we were able to pack up close to 44,000 food items and raise $1700. These items went towards food baskets for families at Hersey, Wheeling, and the District 214 Newcomer Center. The remaining food was packed into three trucks and delivered to the food pantries at St. Alphonsus Church in Prospect Hts., Compass Northwest in Mt. Prospect, and Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington. All of the organizations are very appreciative of the Hersey Community's effort to help others in need.
We would like to thank all of our community partners who helped in this endeavor: Jewel Food stores donated 14,000 bags for our bag and tag effort; Tony's Finer Foods donated gift cards for our food baskets; U-Haul donated the use of three large trucks for delivery; and Rammy's Subcontractors for providing lunch to our delivery crew.
Finally, thank you to our Service Over Self Club and Student Council for their efforts in organizing this community wide event. Through the help of an entire community, many have been given a brighter day!
