February 1, 2012
The John Hersey High School Theater Department will present New York by David Rimmer Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 2- 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s Black Box Theater.
New York takes place in a psychiatrist's office as 15 individuals seek help and therapy to help cope with survivor's guilt or some form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). New York's major themefocuses on human resilience and survival that is relatable to any traumatic situation. When first produced, the play was called "brilliantly written...a thought-provoking event avoiding the sentimental and capturing realistic portraits of how we're all dealing with it (9/11)...a touching exploration of the effects of Sept. 11th on the lives of average New Yorkers."
Cast members include seniors Joe Farrell, Maddie Liesz, Erin Horne, Liz Soto, and JaKub Goldas: juniors Katie Busse, Jeremy Germain, Rachel Campbell, Madeline Brown, Ben Richardson, Steven Kellerhals, and Maria Zoia; sophomores Rose Katz and Bri Bent; and freshman Will Bruce.
The play is co-directed by Lara Becker and Matt Michelin, with technical direction by Bryan Back and costumes coordinated by Linda Scheufler. Tia Lindholm and Elle Richardson are assistant directors.
